Sales 101 : workshop recap
SALES 101 · MADRID · 22 JULY 2026

Workshop Summary.

01

You are already doing this

what we think sales is · what it really is

We listed what selling feels like: pushy, fake, generic. Then flipped it. Selling is solving a real pain, nothing more. The Trauma Table even said CRINGE, haha! I get where you come from. ;)

Selling is solving a pain.

We saw Pink's 2012 survey: people spend roughly 40% of their working time persuading and moving others. Your job title may not say "Salesperson", but you are definitely already selling every day.

Pink, To Sell Is Human, 2012

02

The no hurts. Literally.

why you avoid the ask

We saw the 2003 UCLA study: rejection showed brain activity in the same region as physical pain. Every "no" feels like someone's stepping on your foot! It's normal, we're afraid of it. Your fear of the no is biology, not weakness. But the good news: it can be trained.

It fadesShort pain. The dread beats the call, every time.
A no is dataAbout fit and timing. Usually it means not now.
Play a roleThe no hits the character, not you.

Eisenberger, Lieberman & Williams, Science, 2003

03

One decision, three brains

attention, then trust, then proof

Reptilian

GIVES ATTENTION

Guards the door. Fifty milliseconds is all it needs to judge if something looks safe.

Limbic

DECIDES. PERIOD.

Feels, then chooses. Damasio's patient kept his IQ, lost the feeling, and then could not pick a restaurant.

Neocortex

JUSTIFIES, NEVER DECIDES

Arrives late with the paperwork. The gut already called it.

We walked through an example: you, buying 120€ running shoes from a brand you had never heard of.
1

Reptilian. The page loads clean, real photos, a real returns policy. You stay. Sketchy, and you would have left before knowing why.

2

Limbic. A review from someone with your exact knee problem: "these fixed it." Something in you goes, those are mine. Bought.

3

Neocortex. Now you read the weight, the drop, the returns window. Not to decide, to have an answer when someone asks why.

Lindgaard et al., 2006, 50 ms to judge a page · Fogg, Stanford Web Credibility, 2002 · Damasio, Descartes' Error, 1994. MacLean's three layers, a simplified map, not anatomy.

Every good conversation follows that order: attention, trust, proof.

ICP, know exactly who you serve

not everyone. the ones you aim at.

Not everyone you would take money from. The ones you aim at. Five questions build it, and the answers decide where you show up, what you say and what you charge.

1 · Who
2 · Situation
3 · When
4 · How now
5 · The cost

The test: three real names that match. Not a target audience a person with a name. If you cannot name three, that is information too.

05

A good sale is a good system, here's the one I use

always helping, always qualifying

Ten years taught me you're only as good as your system. Structure boosts quality, so every client moves through the same five stages, referral feeding straight back into prospecting.

always helping always qualifying 1 Prospecting Your ICP, then research 2 Discovery Listen 60, talk 40 3 Proposal Their numbers, your math 4 Onboarding Real dates, real KPIs 5 Referral Ask at the delivery high
06

Objections

Objections are good. A client who asks questions is a client you're building with.

"It's too expensive."Compared to what?
"Let me think about it."Isolate it, then agree a decision date.
DO THIS TODAY

Answer the five ICP questions, then write three real names that match. Send one of them a message: one relevant sentence about their situation, one question, no pitch. That is prospecting, and it takes four minutes.

Thank you

You showed up for yourself by coming, and you made it interactive, working together the whole night. See you all at the next one.

Want to go deeper? I built the full workbook: an interactive guide with guided exercises, the complete objection set and the anatomy of a proposal. Pay what you want at bettercallsarah.net/kit
